The bridge looked stable enough to me and there were fresh traces of muddy hoofsteps that indicated others had crossed as well. And since i did not see any holes that indicated them falling through the wood planks i just assumed they arrived safely on the other side. And so i would go as well.
Though in the beginning i placed my hoofs carefully, after a while i became more confident and i started trotting. I trotted what seemed for like half an hour and felt my longues almost bursting. I was not used to this. But i also did not feel for taking a rest when all i had below me was water and who knew what was in the ocean. I did not care to find out.
When i reached the land i took a short break, after which i trotted further, straight into the forest land that lay before me. There was snow everywhere and it looked like winter had hit harder here than it had in my home land, but i was familiar with forests and i enjoyed running through them. Because of the trees and their canopy the snow was not able to pile up as high here as it could on the open land and so it was easier for me to move around.
I heard birds singing all around me with songs i had never heard before and when i looked up i saw some of the most strange or beautiful looking birds i had ever see. My mouth dropped a little of their coloration, especially at one particularnone that looked as if it had absorded the color of a glacier. Such a deep yet light blue color, it was breathtaking. I also saw some smaller wildlife, which seemed to scare away from me slightly but i did not show any sign of threat and so they would quickly continue with what they were doing.
This made me think that they recognised my species and though they did not know me, they knew all if not most of us were harmless to them. But there had to be predators here as well and i shot a small prayer that i would not encounter any of those. I would fight for my life, obviously, but there was always the possibility of losing and i did not care for dying, not just yet. So even though I admired all the beauty around me, my senses were still on sharp, always on the look-out.
And those senses picked up some sounds straight ahead of me. But I did think a predator would make so much noise, because he would repel prey. And so I went to investigate. When I came closer I also heard a kind of snorting noise, and though it sounded different from my home country, I recognised it as the grazing sound of deer. Or in this case, an elk. The sight of its horns left me in awe, they were at least as wide as I was long. This was not an animal to mess with and I admired it greatly.
It noticed me approaching and looked up for a second, but when it saw I was equine, it just continued eating leafs from bushes near the floor. Actually, from all the running and exploring I got quite hungry as well, and on a closeby but respectable distance I joined him in searching for the nicest and greenest parts of leafs I could find. Even the food here seemed to somehow taste more fresh than what I was used to, and my curiosity was definitely satisfied.
